Nowadays there is no shortage of qualified teachers in the field of railway economics and management. But, just like in my youth, many teachers lack practical experience; and many experienced practical workers lack the skills of teaching to today’s young people who are ahead of us in their technical skills of knowledge searching. During my practical experience, I have gained experience and skills in both areas, which I have demonstrated through my cooperation with the Russian Railways Corporate University. They regularly invite me to give lectures and take part in examination committees.
In my opinion, the most important aspect of training modern specialists today is not to convey certain knowledge, but developing skills that allow them to understand the purpose of acquiring knowledge, evaluate the results, understand its practical meaning, and compare different alternatives.
I am ready to share this experience within the new educational programs for railways specialists, especially in relation to modern market models of the organization of railway transport in different countries, in different market conditions.
II.
How to help a young specialist find out what type of work they are most successful in: Implementing a clearly defined task? Conducting scientific research? or Building a new business? etc.
In fact, we answer these questions as part of our activities after graduation. Why not take the search for answers to these questions within the educational process? This could help people to find themselves more quickly, and employers could search for the right specialists more effectively and use the working staff more effectively.
The methodology I have developed has been tested in practice at the University of Railways among 4th year students of the Faculty of Economics and Finance and subsequently has received positive feedback from future employers. I am eager to test its applicability in other educational institutions and with other specialties. I am waiting for new offers. And I am open to collaborate with other specialists other specialists and refine this methodology.
III.
Remember the movie “The Guernsey literary and Potato Peel Pie Society”?! So - I would like to be a member of it! To be honest, I would like to see not only books, but also films being discussed in this friendly and sincere little community.
After retirement I am not eager to engage in professional activities, to which I have devoted the last years. I want to read more fiction books, that I have never had enough time for in the past. I would like to expand my horizons in other fields of knowledge. I also enjoy reading popular science books and watching interesting documentary films. I am not opposed to watching historical and psychological series as well, if they are made well.
These are my aspirations. I am looking for people who share my interests and values, and who are willing to discuss what we have read and seen in a respectful and polite manner, as amateurs rather than professionals. The most important thing is to respect each other and the right to have a different opinion.
