### Anna Alekseeva
They are not on EF pro (no online access), lately they have been working with different materials along with EF Efekta books. They surely covered material up to 8.2 living better and, now at 8.4 approximately. Alyona and Serafirma are the strong students in the group, and the group loves role play activities. A typical week looks like Monday vocab and grammar, Wednesday practice questions and role play activities - that is what they used to have.

Black Mirror
British anthology television series created by Charlie Brooker. The series explores various genres, with most episodes set in near-future dystopias containing sci-fi technology—a type of speculative fiction. The series is inspired by The Twilight Zone and uses the themes of technology and media to comment on contemporary social issues.
Black Mirror is considered by many reviewers to be one of the best television series of the 2010s, while some critics have found the formulaic morality themes of the series obvious or cite declining quality. The programme won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Television Movie three times consecutively for "San Junipero", "USS Callister" and Bandersnatch. Black Mirror, along with American Horror Story and Inside No. 9, has been credited with reviving the anthology television format and a number of episodes have been deemed prescient by the media.
As Black Mirror is an anthology series, each episode is standalone and can be watched in any order.[9] The programme is an instance of speculative fiction within science fiction: the majority of episodes are set in dystopian near-futures with novel technologies that exaggerate a trait from contemporary culture, often the internet.[10][11][12] An example is "Crocodile", where the Recaller device used to view a person's memories is the main difference from the modern world.[10] Many such technologies involve altering the human body or consciousness, with little in-universe concern for the morality of these actions.[11] They provide convenience or freedom to the user, but exacerbate problematic personality traits.

Unit 2 Give and take

pg 17 quote
‘Being a giver♠ is not good for a 100-yard dash♣, but it’s valuable in a marathon.’
Adam Grant, U.S. author and professor at the University of Pennsylvania

T / Cl
When does it pay off to be considerate & supportive?

♣ 100-yard dash
= 100-yard dash is a track and field sprint event of 100 yards (91.44 metres). It was part of the Commonwealth Games until 1970, and was included in the triathlon of the Olympics in 1904. It is not generally used in international events, replaced by the 100-metre sprint (109.36 yards). However, it is still occasionally run in the United States in certain competitions
♠ giver
= someone who tends to provide support, help, or resources to others. Givers often prioritize the needs of others and find fulfilment in being generous and nurturing. They may feel a sense of purpose in helping others and may derive joy from acts of kindness

✓ it pays off to be generous in a long term situation
〆it's not always effective to take into consideration people's feelings when pushed for deadlines

✓ depends on the level of seniority of the mentor
≠ coaching!
✓ not everyone may have been trained to pass on knowledge effectively

Have you ever experienced a situation when your mentor would not share sensitive information?

✓ only during the probation period

T / Cl
Why shouldn't CEOs always try to call the shots?

✓ they may learn a lot more from their employees than just being a dictator
→ encourage divergent opinions & creative solutions

What is the impact of CEOs being mentors rather just 'dictators'?

✓ being compassionate & nurturing attracts talent
✓ being candid & honest about plans encourages talent to come up with solutions
→ focus on common goals: the company's success & employee satisfaction
→ show that CEOs act in staff interest
