Dear Yulia,

As I told you in my introductory e-mail and repeated today during our 1st lesson, your course is hybrid. This means that the main programme is through the virtual on-line school, which is already accessible 24/7.

Since you haven't got any credentials, I will contact EF to make sure you receive the login and password prior to our next meeting.

Once you have your login & password:
1) Complete the on-line placement test
2) Start at the level recommended by your test
(probably level 8 Unit 1 lessons 1+2)
3) Attend the on-line conversation class after lesson 2

I confirm our next lesson is on Thursday 04 Oct at 2pm (instead of 1pm).

Let me know if you have any questions,
Duncan

Feedback re 1st meeting w/ Y.Chinkova, Leroy Ind 55
Katya, Ivor,

Just a few comments / suggestions re my 1st meeting w/ Y.Chinkova, Leroy Ind 55

In spite of my (i.e. your standard) 'welcome' (introductory) e-mail, Y.Chinkova had not requested a login & password.
qs #1: Is there any way you may assess if new SSS have been granted access, and if not, give them a call or send them a reminder?
The CRC did show she had registered...

She was sure we knew her level is intermediate because it is the level she had reached with her previous language school (Prolang).
qs #2: Whose job is it in the procedure (perhaps just after sales level) to make sure SSS take the placement test? or check what course was attended previously?
I did check the CRC regularly for signs of activity but took it for granted it might not be up to date (especially as most SSS tend to do their prep on the same day or 1 day before the lesson).

She had also obviously not been informed at all by her HR that her course is hybrid (and again didn't get that from the introductory e-mail). Her 1st reaction was that she's very busy and has no time for completing on-line exercises... I found myself having to 'sell' the Efekta flipped learning concept; though she was sceptical at first, she did finally seem quite positive & willing to give it a try, thankfully. It could have been a lot more challenging, however, to convince another person at this level (probably B1 / 8) & position. Besides, I think it shouldn't only up to the teacher to 'sell' a method or book (unless he/she has chosen it).
qs #3: Is there any way to start a course with fewer 'obstacles', in a less almost 'conflictual' manner? I remember Alyona Kuznetsova meeting & going over the course offer for RH Ind 4. Although Y.Chinkova probably isn't quite as 'VIP' as Y.Skaletskaya I wonder what makes / helps you decide whether a teacher should be accompanied for the 1st lesson or not. I don't think I needed to be accompanied on this particular occasion, but I do believe somewhere upstream in HR at Leroy & in sales (or whatever it is called at EF) some important information was not passed on. The question is: how to make sure this doesn't happen again...

Food for thought...
